Starfleet Personnel File #115632

Solasho Aiden

Rank: Lieutenant Junior Grade

Race: Cygnan

Gender: Male

Date of Birth: 2347

Place of Birth: Cygnus

Birth Parents:

Height: 5' 9"

Weight: 165 lbs
Family:
Mother – renowned solar physicist, working on star rejuvenation and other cutting edge theoretical work. Father – geneticist and nano-surgical pioneer reprimanded twice by the Science Council for “questionable research practices” and violations of restricted research areas. Only child – he suspects because of what his parents went through with him. Grandparents deceased, no known aunts or uncles.

Pre-Academy Life:
Aiden was born with a degenerative neuro-muscular condition. Given less than two years to live, his parents sought and obtained revolutionary treatment that reversed the progress of the disease. The details of the treatment were not revealed, but his files presume that this therapeutic modality would not be widely applicable to other sufferers.

His childhood was relatively structured, a repetitive cycle of therapy and home schooling, interrupted only by various science conferences attended by one parent or the other. He was nearly eight when Si’Ahn lessons were finally introduced into his regimen. The instruction was traditionally begun earlier or much later in life, but Aiden took to the philosophy and practice as if it were something he was born to do. When his test scores returned, recommending him for work in the arts or some non-technical field, his parents permitted him to begin public schooling and continue his advancement in the art of Si’Ahn.

He excelled in the public school setting, placing near the top of his class in many subjects. There were a few negative incidents, most notably a brawl with the twin sons of a prominent physician that ended with one of them hospitalized, but he graduated with high honors. His parents supported his application to Starfleet, even though they questioned his chosen field of study.

Aiden tested at 84.6 on the Cygnan Technical Aptitude Exam (100 is average – like an IQ test for engineering skills, administered about halfway through the educational process). The Cygnans are a highly technically astute race, and consider technological advancement a nearly religious expression of their culture, so this is something of an embarrassment. However, due to the high base aptitude of his species, this low score still places him into the top 5-10% of Human technical ability.

Starfleet Academy:
Starfleet Academy accepted his application to their Engineering program, despite his borderline entry test scores in that area. His advisor felt that he made a good general candidate, and if he had to change his focus later, it would only broaden his experience. An honor duel with his Andorian roommate sparked an interest in other martial arts in general, and armed combat in particular. Aiden still has a few artful scars from this period, carefully preserved in places his uniform covers, and he maintains a spirited correspondence with his former roommate.

Aiden completed his degree in General Engineering, with his final thesis dealing with the Physics, Psychology, and Metaphysics of Bio-computers. Per his advisor’s suggestions, he took multiple electives in science and counseling, including a great deal of additional course work in Philosophy, Psychology, History, and Anthropology.

Starfleet Career:
Completed his cadet cruise without incident, obtaining a favorable but not exceptional evaluation from his first commander. His second posting was to a smaller ship, one doing stellar phenomena research. In the course of that posting, he played an instrumental role in discovering and communicating with a new life form in a stellar cradle, earning him a commendation and a broader choice of postings for his next assignment. Taking a risk, he applied for Officer Exchange, and obtained a placement with a small Klingon vessel. That tour proved to be a constant test of his close combat skills as much if not more than his training as an engineer, culminating in the prevention of an unjust mutiny barely eight months into his posting. His actions resulted in no overt commendation from the Klingon Fleet Command, but he received a quiet invitation to apprentice at a Swordsmanship Academy from the captain of his ship. Obtaining a leave from Starfleet, he completed a year’s apprenticeship, obtaining the highest honors from the Swordmaster in that class, and was mentioned among the best non-Klingon graduates of that generation. From there, he petitioned for admission into an Andorian Knife-Fighting school, and obtained entry with the help of his Academy roommate. The Comparative Combative Philosophies paper he published subsequent to his completion of master-level training was well received at the Xenopsychology Council. After bidding a long, fond farewell to his female companions on Andoria, he returned to active duty. The Griffin is his first post back.

Personality Profile:
He wears his white, waist length hair secured with cords and wraps bearing meditative sutras while on duty or worn up with long hairpins bearing understated Federation insignia for formal events.

Sleeps only two to three hours per terrestrial cycle, with no apparent loss of efficiency or focus. Looks merely trim in uniform, but maintains himself near peak fitness for his species. Aiden possesses a quiet magnetism that, while not sufficient to make him sterling leadership material, renders him quite popular with the female crewmen.

Talks softly to the machines and computers he’s working on, as if psychoanalyzing them or trying to persuade them to work properly. He is open about his desire to sample multiple relationships at once, and has managed not to alienate any of the women he has been intimate with so far. Maintains a slightly wiseacre serenity best described as old-school Taoist.

Hobbies:
“Collects” philosophical systems, including books and meditative aids. Practices Si’Ahn, a Cygnan martial art similar to Terran Aikijutsu, for several hours every day, and teaches classes in the style on his off days. He has also achieved master rank in several Andorian knife fighting disciplines and Klingon swordsmanship.

NOT KNOWN TO THE GENERAL POPULATION (nor in this Starfleet profile)–Aiden’s parents treated his condition with illegal gene therapy, resulting in excessive muscle fiber resilience and efficiency. His strength is many times normal for his species, more efficient than even Vulcan fiber contraction ratios. The martial arts training he pursues is in part a requirement to keep his musculature from becoming painfully tight and in part to give him the discipline to maintain the appearance of normal physical ability to avoid an investigation that might embarrass his parents.
