Family:
Yuri’s parents relocated to Utopia Planetia station in 2340 after their marriage on New Seattle; Moon colony. Yuri was born 2 years later. The Ivanof parents, both computer engineers, were stationed at Utopia Planetia as the computer design specialists on the Nebula, Galaxy, and Voyager class Starships. (Incidental note: The Ivanofs have been credited with many of the advancements in computer technology including the ‘gel pack’ technology on board the Voyager class starships.)

Pre-Academy Life: 2342- 2360
Yuri’s early life was a fairly typical one. His parents were not in a dangerous line of work so Yuri’s life was one of education and for the most part happy. His parents would bring him on board the ships they were working on at the time. It was an early decision that he made to enter Starfleet. His classes up until his Starfleet entrance exams display the desire for his entrance.

Starfleet Academy: 2360-2366
He successfully entered the academy in the Fall of 2405. He spent 6 years in the Academy and became a piloting specialist. He made it onto the Alpha Piloting team and helped them to pull off a first place finish in the academy piloting finals. He also scored very highly on the Kobayashi Maru exam. His piloting skills in that test allowed his crew to survive 2.3 minutes longer than the previous record holder, Commander William Riker. (This example is of course not including the "victory" of James T Kirk (deceased) in this exam- see Kobayashi Maru incident [stardate 43286.7] in Capt. Kirk’s File. ) His instructors were impressed with his flight skills and his command skills. He graduated 3rd in his class at the academy.

Starfleet Career:
EARLY CAREER 2366-2374
Lt.J.G. Ivanof was stationed on board the USS Intrepid (NCC- 1845-A) as Navigation officer. He served three years on board before the battle of WOLF 359. That battle would be a defining moment in the ensign’s career. He earned the bronze star for Gallantry for successfully maneuvering a heavily damaged Intrepid out of the battle zone saving the lives of his fellow crewmembers (total: 879). The Intrepid was again called upon to defend Earth as a second Borg cube made it to Sector 001, and nearly succeeded in assimilating Earth. That incident was a far better success than WOLF 359. He was then promoted to Lt. Commander and given the Ops position on the Intrepid. Two years later, Intrepid was diverted to Deep Space Nine to reinforce the Federation’s position there during the conflict with the Dominion. Although not involved in the heaviest of fighting, Intrepid served the Federation’s interests admirably. He continued on board the Intrepid until she was decommissioned two years later in 2420 He took a two-year Leave of Absence from Starfleet after the Decommissioning.

INTERIM 2374-2376
As a civilian, Yuri took several contract positions flying a variety of freighters and passenger craft throughout Federation space. He also took a strong look at his Starfleet career and decided to return To Starfleet.

RECENT CAREER 2376-Present
Lt. Cmdr. Ivanof returned to active duty in late 2376. He was appointed Ops officer to the USS Ramius NCC-82409. This appointment only lasted for 6 months as Ivanof had several disagreements with the Ramius’ Capt. Dyar. At the same time he was putting in for a transfer, he was made aware of Capt. Myst’s need for a First officer. Lt. Cmdr. Ivanof decided it was time for a promotion and applied for the position. Starfleet was accommodating in light of his previous record, prior to his stationing on board the Ramius and awarded him the rank of Commander and placed him on board the USS Griffin NCC-1979.

He stayed with his family on Utopia Planetia while the Griffin was undergoing a full overhaul and refit. Station Capt. Chavez reports that he was an active, albeit informal, member of the refit team. He had been overseeing the refit and assisting where possible. He had also been allowed to move his belongings into his quarters on board the Griffin during the last half year of the refit.

Personality Profile:
Cmdr. Ivanof is known as a very private man. He has a small cluster of acquaintances among the refit team at Utopia Planetia, but does not usually attend informal gatherings. (Analysts personal Note: Interviews with said members of the refit team have revealed that although he is a private man, he had been known to hum a theme or two from Gilbert and Sullivan or Ira Gershwin while working on whatever duties have been provided for him. They have also revealed that a surprise party is being planned for his departure.) Physically he is a *bulky* man. He is fit but has a barrel chest. He has a slight graying at his temples and some flecks of gray in his beard. His strong Russian ethnicity is prevalent in how he presents himself. His chin is always high as if he were going to be knighted by the Czar. He is known for his personal integrity and honor, and his attention to protocol and detail. He also has an expressive manner. His words, while stern and forceful, are known to be articulate and expressive.

Hobbies:
He is an avid pilot and clocked approx 1500 hours in the last 6 months of the refit at Utopia Planetia in a variety of Station craft. He also put in a purchase order for a small warp capable shuttlecraft of the Runabout class. His Starfleet salary is being put towards its purchase. He has also put in requests for a docking permit on board the Griffin once payments are made and delivery is complete. He has displayed an enjoyment of classical and early musical theater.
